It’s that time again. Kids are heading back to school to face new challenges of all sorts. We, as parents, need to give them all the support that we can, and one of the best things to do is enroll them for martial arts lessons at West Houston ATA Martial Arts.
There have been several studies that show a positive correlation between physical activity and good grades. In one, the Journal of Pediatrics hosted an article titled “Improving Academic Performance with Physical Fitness“. In it, they point out “Cardiorespiratory capacity, muscular strength, and motor ability are components of physical fitness that have documented potential to improve health, each of which may have different effects on the brain and, therefore, academic performance.”
The U. S. Department of Health and Human Services also produced a review titled “The Association Between School-Based Physical Activity, Including Physical Education, and Academic Performance“. In it, they tell us: “Nineteen studies (reported in 14 articles) focused specifically on the relationship between academic performance and activities organized through school that occur outside of the regular school day. These activities included participation in school sports (interscholastic sports and other team or individual sports) as well as other after-school physical activity programs. All 19 studies examining the relationships between participation in extracurricular physical activities and academic performance found one or more positive associations.”
Martial arts training at West Houston ATA Martial Arts has the added benefit of not only giving a good physical workout, but also emphasizing traditional life skills, such as courtesy, respect, honor, integrity, perseverance, loyalty and self-control. We also provide training in bullying prevention, which is a real problem in schools.
